The day I made my first website
Hey, before I begin, tell me if I can call myself a kid when under-30?
Life happens only after the fif(teens). So, we're still fiddling, with adulthood though, but still, learning new things… like a kid. Right?
Not a kid anymore, but I was (probably) in 2017-18.
Yeah, I was an excited kid when I published my first website in 2018.
I had a dismal blog already. It was my third blog site, as mismanaged and incomplete as the first.
But now (then), I wanted to be known as a freelance writer. And I had no experience to show. I wanted to look professional.
So, I was impatient to grow my blog into a portfolio website.
Here's how I began -
looked for information around Jan 2018. In a month, I got enough clarity about the technical terms: domain and hosting.
narrowed my search to find the best ones for beginners. Yes, I began looking for specific services. Also, checked with friends who had websites.
searched for offers and coupons for a service I was going to take: GoDaddy. It was (and is) providing both domain and hosting.
And now as I'm typing, I realise this is what search intent means. First, my intent was Informational. Second, it became Commercial. At last, Transactional.
OK, I published my website in April 2018. I kept updating it later, but it was online in April.
I was excited. And I wanted to share this excitement with everyone.
I wrote an article to summarise the process. I shared it on social media. Few people liked it, and then I left it for a slow death.
I never checked the article again, until 6 months ago. I cringed seeing the crap I wrote. So, I decided to change it. I just decided, didn't do it right away.
Last week, when I was browsing my folder, I noticed the document copy again. I saved it as UPDATED but never updated.
Yesterday, I did.
The Lazily Effective Way to Whip up a Website
Yes, it still looks like a burnt toast, a botched omelette and a blooped cup of coffee. But I'll make it an "ultimate" guide one day, eons later.
And that was all for today. See you with another irregular newsletter soon. 🐼
