Lost desires and flaky laziness
The highlight of the month was that I read through six books, one of which I was reading since January. All thanks to an Internet shutdown in my area, could cut my pending reading list short and put my work-life on hold.
Two were fiction, and here are my views on the other four:
Survival Skills for Freelancers: It's a basic reference guide for anyone who wants to make big as a freelancer. The book not only provides an account of Sarah's experience as a freelancer but also has tips from other freelancers, along with their stories. It takes you through the so-called green grass of the freelance lifestyle. Whether you're a new freelancer or an experienced one feeling lost, you'll find the book helpful.
The Freelance Introvert: It's a gem of a book for newbie freelancers (if you haven't read other books about freelance tips or haven't seen tips from other freelancers online). For someone, who has been active online... the book is skippable. Even if you're an introvert. A book of generic freelance tips tbh.
A Self-Help Guide for Copywriters: It has nothing special you won't find in any other copywriting book. Yet, it's a must-read. The book is like a cheat sheet for copywriters, for when you're stuck.
Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This: The book gets all in to help you create ads. It focuses mostly on newspaper and banner ads. It also has chapters dedicated to TV and radio ads. From churning out headlines to hunting down the best-image-fit for a copy (or best-copy-fit for an image), you get to learn it all through examples. It's recommended for intermediate-level copywriters. Copywriting noobs can skip it, to return later.
If you have a Goodreads account, you can follow to keep up with my book updates.
Apart from books...
started cartooning; not much progress to my credit.
worked on 5 projects, including a travel agency web copy.
made some social media ad mockups, out of boredom.
watched the first season of Tokyo Ghoul; not to my taste.
dug into the basics of company analysis; to invest in stock market.
took up a new client for July onwards; no motivation to work, but monieee.
Ahh yes, started watching Suits. Finished the first season and I'm loving the quotes they casually pull off. Harvey's "Iām against having emotions, not against using them.ā sums up marketing quite well. š¤£
By the way, I so want to continue sending those cold email newsletters. Have lost the desire. Want to create book summaries too. Not able to. Just not in the mood anymore.
OK, that was all.
Will see you with another irregular newsletter soon. š¼
