Heyaa
Itās Monday, 9.30 AM and things are on their chaotic side after some 10 days of silence.
To begin with, I missed my Sunday newsletter siesta. Not nap time; just a cooling time when I do nothing apart from writing this weekly journal (and probably doing 23 other things in between).
You know, just this Saturday, I told a friend I got myself a lazy weekend. The devilish fate didnāt like that probably. So, yeah, a day after, Iām back to typing against the clock. Not literally, of course, factoring in the time lost in distractions.
OK, letās begin. The song of the dayyy isā¦
Saw it on an IG story last week. And even though I donāt understand a word, itās my go-to for those times when I donāt feel like working.
I got plenty of work done in the last few days. And it was helluva fun.
Different types of writing. Some regular travel, UI/UX and social change for clients. And gifting, decor and other lifestyle niche articles for my store blog. Buffet, you know. I donāt have anything much to do apart from work.
Ah, also, published a few quotes from Zomatoās Culture book.
And I applied to a part-time project. In the traditional way. You know resume, cover letter and all.
Hereās how the story goes.
The job post was about the need for a generalist (freelance) copywriter. Yes, not an expert or specialist. A generalist. I am that. Generalist... and proud of it.
Of course, the job responsibilities are anything and everything related to writing. But that specific mention of āgeneralistā is what made me excited. It was different from others. Plus, it was a proper 500-words-long post describing everything about the role and company.
And the funny thing is: I ticked all the essential requirements, except āExcellent copywriting skills.āĀ
At most, Iām a writer. Writing about anything and everything. I can write you stories, endless storiesā¦ once Iāve formed a comfort zone.
Copywriter am I? Not so much. Yeah, I have written copy for ads and landing pages. So, some copywriting worm is there inside. So, I applied for the role.
Had to start my application from scratch. Because they asked for a resume and a cover letter. And I had no idea what a generalistās resume should look like.
I made a few resumes earlier, specific ones for Tech, Travel and Marketing. Added links to some of my best works, just like a portfolio.
This application, though, needed a proper resume.
I went through my LinkedIn experiences to see if I can list those in my resume. And I noticed I could.
I have a few part-time experiences, after all. Like contract jobs which I can show off on a resume. Plus, I ārepurposedā my side projects as full-time experiences. For example, Book Blabber.
Yes, I put all those things together and designed a resume. Traditional Indian jugaad!
Took me a full 4 hours to make a good, working resume, and about 2 more to write a cover letter. Canva templates and ChatGPT to the rescue. Managed to have something that was in my voice while satisfying their requirements checklist.
Passed it through Anmol before sending it through. It was my first time, so kinda conscious.Ā
And guess what? I received a reply from them. One automated and another human (supposedly). They asked me to complete a quick taskā¦ to write a promotional post for the brand.
Spent two hours the next day going through the topic, website and the branding guidelines they provided. Now waiting.
Will this effort convert into a paid project? Who knows! Letās see if it works out.
If it does, Iāll be better able to focus on my blog. Ironic, no? But true, finance-wise. You need finances to fund your passion, right?
The merch store is yet to march. And until it starts pouring money in, I must churn out regular relevant content pieces.
I have turned into a recluse I guess. Want to dedicate all my free time to blogging; whatever is left after client work, or reclaimed from distractions.
You know, I lowered my workload for a client by giving that reason. That the work is eating away at my blogging time. Without earning me much in return.
So, hoping to get some new work where I can get more working less. Just being lazy putting in the desired efforts to find new projects.
And that brings me to the end of this newsletter. Nothing much to say.
Bidding adieu. Enjoy your day. Live long and prosper.
