ā¦ hai to bas ek cheez. Log! (... thereās just one thing. People!)
Wondering what that is?
Well, itās another sign from the universe that I should be around humans more and more. I sooo not want to. Not right now.
Wait! Before I continue my wailing and whining, I should give you some backstory.
Itās 26 Nov. Sunday. 7.43 AM. And for the past three days, Iāve been in the middle of another mid-life crisis. The brain isnāt braining anymore.
And my current song in the loop isā¦
So, this Friday evening, waiting for the heart and brain to do its work, I watched Rocket Singh. Have you watched it? Salesman of the year? You should. If not right now, someday.
OK, I watched Rocket Singh. It was a smooth one. I enjoyed the laughter as well as dismay.
Everything was going well. The movie could have very well ended on a sad note. But no! Bollywood needs to give a happy twist.
Towards the end, thereās a conversation going on. Ranbir mentions that in business, thereās no scheme, no trick, no magic. People are the only thing you rely upon.
The movie that I was watching for fun put me back into my crisis mode.
The one thing I am not good at is maintaining and troubleshooting people. And seems like itās the most important thing to run a business.
What to do?
Now, if youāre reading this thinking Iāll talk about a solution, you can skip this newsletter. Iāve no answer as of now. Someday, Iāll be back among humans like nothing happened. But not today.
So, in this crispy crisis mode I wonder if I was meant to be a bookpreneur.
Ideas are plenty. Itās just that the zeal to execute them is missing. I donāt feel like freelancing, and I donāt feel like entrepreneur-ing.
I just want to read. Read the whole day. Thatās one thing constant in the lastā¦ (let me calculate: Iāve been reading (not just textbooks) since I was five, and now Iām almost 33) ā¦ 28 years of my existence. Yes! Itās one constant.
In this past week, by the way, I'm yet to finish reading one book.
What did I do all the week?
Well, I changed some product descriptions, a few every day. Also, some tshirt mockups, a few every day. Worked on client projects. I like the processes (not lazy that way)...Ā
I just donāt like going through the boring processes. The ones that probably would make up a strong business. I am not able to stick to one thing.
So, I jazz up my task lists.
And last week, I awarded some certificates. Yeah, certificates. The active members of my Book Beezzz Whatsapp group can get a certificate if they want.
The entire setup process ate almost 12-15 hours of my week. The only fun hours of my week.
The design took me only 1-2 hours, actually. Then, spent (wasted) three hours looking for automation to generate and email the certificate automatically.
Leaving automation for some other day, started looking for simple image hosting services with social sharing. Certificates are for the world to see, after all. Right?
Wasted some two hours on that too, before realising I could do it with Carrd.
So, set up a new site on Carrd and worked out a jugaad to enable basic social sharing.
This is how it looks:
These are the ways I spend my timeā¦ without a reason without a plan.
And thatās why I wonder if I was cut to be a bookpreneur.
Itās not that these things will go absolutely wasted. I know they wonāt; even if the final product ends up in the recycle bin five years from now.
Iāve learned new things through these random processes that come in handy afterward. Abhijeet today is a messed up medley of all those.
Iāve learned even in my school and college.
I know, everyoneā¦ almost everyoneā¦ disses school/college education.
The current education framework is old, of course, but youāll defo find things from your studies (if you want) that have helped you in real life.
For example, I graduated in computer science. But I didnāt pursue programming. So, did I waste my 3+3 years? Not entirely. Youāll say, āYou couldāve done something that interested you!ā
Well, thatās what interested me. Not programming, but computer in general. And I pursued it.
A bit of that experience helps me with web dev and design today. It made it easier for me to understand (and sometimes tweak) codes, taking help from Stack Overflow, of course.
Everything brings something good for you, I believe.
But looking at my current days, I wonder whatās waiting for me next.
Letās see.
One good thing, by the way, happened right today. Anmol is taking care of bookmark printing.
Hereās a preview
Yet to decide on delivery and all, but hoping to notch up Book Blabber soon.
Iāll take your leave now.
Bidding adieu.
Live long and prosper.
See you next week, with another story.
