Back-breaking way to learning from newsletters
Heyaa
I will start right away with that back-breaking way. I will call this my "Throwing darts in the dark" (TDD?) method to find newsletters you'll love reading and learning from.
I shared it on Twitter earlier. Earthly hoomans seemed to love it. If you read it there already, you can skip this jibber jabber.
If you haven't seen it yet, here is the process:
Log into your email account through PC
Search for all the "Unread" emails you have received
Delete them
Yes, ALLLLL. I know you've thousands, creeped in different corners. Some might be useful too. But if you haven't read them yet, you'll never need them.
You might need to take a weekend, or the entire week, off.
But once you've deleted them, another torturous process awaits you.
Begin unsubscribing from the following (as you receive them)…
shiny newsletters from that gifting website you'll never buy from again
offer emails from your favourite clothing store you never open
job notifications you signed up for 31 years ago
finance spams which somehow pass the spam filter
ex's weekly updates which you don't feel like reading any more
… and everything else which you don't know how they found their way into your inbox. Unsubscribe from each as they arrive.
Yappp, when I said back-breaking I meant it.
Now, unsubscribing from every unsolicited email might take a few months. But the good part of my TDD method is coming.
You can jump onto the next step, and carry it along side by side. It is about finding newsletters you'll love reading… which are useful to you.
Here are a few ideas:
search for best newsletters for marketers, book lovers, pyjama addicts or whatever
ask your fellow marketers, book lovers, pyjama addicts or whoever for their favourite newsletters
look for inspiration and recommendation on social media
Next:
Subscribe to all those newsletters
Read the emails regularly
Unsubscribe from the ones you don't resonate with
You mustn't judge by one email or two. But by reading 3-5 emails, you can form a good judgement whether you're going to like that newsletter or not.
And there you have a bunch of newsletters you'll love.
TL; DR:
Subscribe the ones everyone recommends.
Unsubscribe the ones you don't resonate with.
Repeat!
