Heyaa Bee
Hoping you’re fat and fine there… (fit and fine?) As long as you can read this, even from a hospital bed, I think you’re good. You’re alive, what else do you want? Trek to Everest? Travel the world? Well, you can work it out once you’re out of the hospital.
I was totally wasted this week. Mostly. Instead of working on urgent projects, I slacked off. Thanks to that, my weekend was stressful. Just got off an article and switched straight to this newsletter (after an hour on Instagram and WhatsApp).
OK, sshhh! It’s Sunday, June 29… 18.22 hours, and I’m listening to…
It’s an old favourite. The tune was stuck in my head somehow, and I’m playing the song since.
OK, the highlight of the week would be reading a book on Wattpad. That was my latest adventure. The author asked me to read it and give feedback. Took me probably 3 hours overall (spread across 6 days).
I read the book, liked the premise… and now, I have a new side project. I offered to edit the book. It felt the book might benefit from some improvements. Not that I’m any pro. But everyone starts somewhere, right? Will try in my free time, whenever I have the chance, and see if I’m any good.
Apart from that, there was pretty much nothing in the book. I did finish watching Season 4 of Panchayat. All in a day of its release, just like the previous season. Yeah, that’s how irresponsible I’ve been.
And now that I’m in talks about onboarding another client, I’m kind of rushing into taking care of existing commitments. So, a distressed weekend.
It’s another freelance writing project, btw, so nothing particularly interesting for now.
In the meantime, last week, I did notice my “Book Reviewer for Hire” article was getting more hits than usual. So, I did what a (good) marketer would do.
I updated the article with additional keywords and social proof to improve its chances of attracting queries. If you checked, it now includes an image of my book reviewing stats, my ARC tracker and IG profile. With alt text and captions for image search results.
Have also added some FAQs to address any doubts, specifically regarding pricing. Highlighted that book reviewing is free. Entirely free. No hidden costs. I can try to post them on any platform you want.
Only author features and full-length review articles on my blog are chargeable. And yes, also if you'd like me to post more than just reviews on social media.
I have set up review profiles on the most popular platforms (excluding TikTok and YouTube), that authors usually prefer. Set up the profiles last week itself. Will populate them with reviews as I read and review new books from now on.
The first reviews on them will be posted tomorrow itself. Will be finishing my current read hopefully. That’ll be my 11th book of this month. June. Mostly short reads, you know.
Overall, this will be the 43rd book of the year. Have increased my reading goal to 60 books. If I can, that’ll be a new record for me. The highest has been 56, I guess.
And with all the articles on my blog, it could very well be turned into a reliable knowledge base. I was trying something while setting up some plugins. The few questions I tested had accurate answers. Just that the app subscription was high. Will look for some free or one-time payment apps.
As of today, Book Blabber has 265 articles. In June, I added only two. But then, I also converted 7 of my Goodreads reviews into articles. So, the blog isn’t neglected, actually.
This was a good month overall, even if the week wasn’t particularly satisfying. I created and uploaded several author checklists on Gumroad, as well as one additional (a Copyright page template) to serve as a sign-up “magnet.”
Let’s see how July goes. Will have to see how much time I can dedicate to reading and writing books. And promoting books. I don’t know how I’ll be a famous author without marketing my books.
Will take your leave now. It’s time to get back to doing some reading. Probably the only thing I can do well.
See you next week.
Bidding adieu. Enjoy your day. Live long and prosper.
